Timberland, Fortnite, and the metaverse

Legendary Shoe company joins the fray with Fortnite

Timberland has been a staple of American society. These fashionable work boots are not meant for work yet are meant to make a statement in fashion. Rugged, good-looking, and durable, these shoes have become iconic and one of the main staples of many fashion statements in the world. The shoes have seen prominence in cultures and have defined cities and communities. Recently the company has decided to get in on the action of the metaverse and has decided the best way to do that is with Fortnite.

On Tuesday, in partnership with Epic Games’ Unreal Engine and ConceptKicks, Timberland introduced a new metaverse experience with the gaming phenomenon Fortnite. The project will see the company’s Construct: 10061 program be put to good use.

Construct 10061

Inspired by the metaverse and constant influx of new artistry and ideas Construct 10061 by Timberland is an ongoing project that allows artists to reconstruct the iconic boots every 6 months. The project has been started with the company ConceptKicks. The creators are able to rethink every single step of the process of creating the shoe and the event is held at the New Hampshire headquarters of Timberland. The project has been in play since 2018 and is still going strong.

The project

The partnership and project span both physical and virtual worlds offering users an inside look at the process of creation used by Timberland. The players of Fortnite will be able to experience the process while they play the immersible experience. There will be a recreation of the real-world innovation labs of Timberland. Players will also be able to go on a search for the “Metaboots” including the iconic yellow silhouette. The boots will be found on a special Island that contains various “biomes” of different climates, each boot will have a different look and offer the user some special effects.

The boots have been designed by some very talented innovators such as Daniel Bailey, Zixiong Wei, and Aisha Kujk along with Timberland’s own ACE designer to bring the magic to Fortnite. Ali ‘SypherPK’ Hassan, who began creating videos in sixth grade and has risen to be one of the most recognized and followed Fortnite players in the world has been signed on for the launch of the project to ensure an exciting beginning point.
