Animoca brands continues to push its investment portfolio into projects building upon web3. The company has been known to advance digital property rights for gaming and the open metaverse. Today in an announcement the team at Animoca stated a Membership Interest Purchase Agreement for the acquisition of WePlay Media Holdings LLC which is the sole shareholder of XXL Racing LLC. XXL Racing LLC is an official licensee of MotoGP.
The acquisition will be contingent upon the completion of certain customary conditions but was announced at the MotoGP Gran Premio Animoca Brands de Aragon. An event in which Animoca was the title sponsor.
WePlay, was founded by racing video game veteran Mark DeSimone and his partner Graeme Warring. The company went on to create MotoGP Championship Quest for mobile which saw great success. After the acquisition Grame Warring will continue to lead WePlay Media and work on more MotoGP projects which includes continuing work with Animoca Brands and the REVV Motorsport team operating the MotoGP Ignition blockchain game.
MotoGP is a successful brand reaching more than half a billion homes and finding itself with over 40 million total followers on various social media platforms. The brand welcomed Animoca Brands as a partner in 2019 as Animoca gained rights to create the first NFTs based on the MotoGP name. The two companies then went on to create MotoGP together which is a competitive management and collectibles game. The game is already part of the REVV Motorsport ecosystem of play-and-earn games.
This newest acquisition will give Animoca Brands the ability to expand its relationship with Dorna Sports for sponsorship , NFT Licenses, collectible cards, and blockchain game development and publishing. The company hopes the acquisition will allow it to develop an integrated experience for the players of MotoGP Ignition.
